Choosing the right flooring for your needs can be a complex task. As well as the obvious considerations such as colour and material, there may be specific performance requirements to consider, particularly if the area is likely to be used for highly sensitive operations such as healthcare or precision manufacturing processes.
For many industries, a key consideration is whether the floor needs to be anti-static. Determining the answer is only the first step: if you need anti-static flooring, you also need to understand the types that are suitable, the benefits and the options to consider when choosing anti-static flooring.
Antistatic flooring is also known as ESD flooring and is divided into dissipative and conductive flooring. It is a specially designed floor whose main function is to dissipate static electricity to prevent it from causing damage to electronic equipment. This type of flooring dissipates charge when connected to earth or any lower potential point with a surface resistance or volume resistance between 10 in the 5th and 10 in the 9th power.
Antistatic flooring has the characteristics of homogeneous vinyl flooring while protecting sensitive environments where static charges may be present. This is why they are also known as antistatic homogeneous flooring.
While many organizations may consider using anti-static homogeneous flooring for a variety of reasons, certain industries require anti-static flooring as a minimum safety precaution.
Chemical manufacturers and processors, as well as any company that may use flammable chemicals or materials in their operations, need to create static-free working environments to prevent the ignition of chemicals, fumes and even tiny flammable particles. Electrostatic discharges can disable sensitive electronic components, so organisations involved in the manufacture or assembly of semiconductors or electronic products also require antistatic homogeneous flooring.
In addition, any operation that relies on uninterrupted or guaranteed access to specialised electronic equipment, such as hospitals or air traffic control rooms, should take precautions to avoid static electricity. This also includes ammunition or pyrotechnic manufacturing, military operations, micromechanics, optical lenses, photographic film, lasers, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, surgical implant manufacturing, medical environments and even some food and beverage production environments.
An antistatic homogeneous floor absorbs the static electricity that naturally builds up in any environment, helping to control the build-up, generation and dissipation of static charges and conducting them through the floor to the ground. By grounding the charge, it prevents static electricity from building up and being released into the environment, which could otherwise damage equipment or endanger the safety of personnel. With these special features, Farfly has developed an anti-static homogeneous floor for a wide range of applications.
Static dissipation: Helps reduce static build-up with a system resistance range of 1.0 x 10^6Ω to 1.0 x 10^9Ω.
Conductive option: For areas with high static control requirements, with a system impedance of less than 1.0 x 10^6Ω.
Static voltage decay cycle: ≤ 3 seconds.
Abrasion resistance: ESD floor when a uniform structure, single-layer material, the composition and colour of the entire thickness is consistent, wear-resistant by the body. Suitable for high traffic areas.
Antibacterial properties: Complies with ISO846-C (Class I) and ISO846-A/C, demonstrating freedom from bacteria.
Stain and scratch resistant: Resistant to stains and scratches, easy to clean and maintain.
Seamless installation: Typical heat-welded installation reduces the risk of dirt and bacteria build-up.
Anti-slip: Rated R9/DS to EN13893. it has good anti-slip properties.
Fire resistance: Complies with fire safety standards.
Comfort underfoot: Provides a comfortable walking surface and reduces fatigue.
Sound absorption: Reduces noise levels by approximately 2dB according to ISO0717.
Sustainable materials: Typically made from environmentally friendly materials, which may include recycled content.
Low VOC emissions: Contributes to better indoor air quality.
